It looks like American Express Canada is about to launch a new card called the Cobalt.  Details are slim at the moment but it sounds like it will be launching next week.  I haven’t heard anything official from my sources but it seems to be all over Twitter and Instagram so I don’t doubt that it’s going to happen.

If the rumours are true, this could be an excellent card for Travel Hackers due to the excellent points multipliers.

UPDATE – After speaking to AMEX, it looks like they are targeting the launch of the Cobalt card on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

What We Know

From what we are seeing on social media, this card will have a 5x multiplier on groceries and dining and 2x on travel and transit.

This information was pulled from promotional videos that were hosted on Vimeo but they have since been pulled.  From what I’ve seen, it looks to have been a premature launch as the AMEX website featuring the card doesn’t have a lot of information, yet the videos were very descriptive.

Here’s what the page currently looks like:

I assume that when the card goes live, you will be able to get the details about it here.

What We Don’t Know

We don’t know what the annual fee will be with this card (if any), what the qualification criteria are and what points will be awarded.  We can assume that Membership Rewards will be the currency that you earn but we can’t be sure yet.

Follow Along

No one is sure exactly as to when the card will launch but you can follow along in some discussions at RedFlagDeals or FlyerTalk to keep up to date.  I will of course bring you any information I have as soon as I know it.

H/T to PekFlyer for the heads up
