Data Point – Priority Pass Validity After AMEX Platinum Cancellation

If you have been following along with the blog, you will know that I recently canceled my American Express Platinum Card.  Not because it didn’t provide value, but because it provided less value for me after the first year.

One of the benefits that I will miss most will be the access to the Priority Pass and Centurion Lounges because I love starting my trips relaxing in a lounge, rather than waiting at the gate.  I actually have a trip upcoming in a couple of weeks so I was hopeful that it would take some time for American Express to process the paperwork back to Priority Pass so that I could use the lounges one last time.

As a guy that doesn’t leave things to chance, I called Priority Pass with the membership number I was assigned by American Express to see if the pass was still valid.

It wasn’t.  They had canceled it.

All within 24 hours of processing the cancellation.

I hadn’t expected that it would take that much time to process the cancellation but less than 24 hours is impressive.

This is all to say that if you have a trip upcoming that coincides with the cancellation of your American Express Platinum Card, be aware that your Priority Pass privileges will be revoked almost immediately.
